Backpack Hunting
Picture a man
Keeling on a wood floor
A fireplace cackling in the background
Before him a mountain of gear
A rifle and a backpack
He grabs a knife
Smiles as he thinks of trips its been on
He puts it in his pack in its place
Now a grimace.
He holds a broken stove and its replacement
He thinks of the food and warmth the stove provided
Now he looks at the new untested stove uneasy on its dependability
He puts it in the spot the old stove occupied for years
He lifts a second pair of shoes
Looks at his pack
And puts them on the floor
He repeats this process until his pack is filled
He places the pack by the door and the rifle in the closet
A deep breath for a night of fitful sleep
The hunt starts tomorrow.
Hunting off a Horse
Hmm.. Do I really need that second box of Twinkies?
Yes I do.
