Recipe Review: Brocoli Beef

Hello Everyone!

Today I am going to be reviewing a recipe for Brocoli Beef that I found on Facebook.

I really loved this dish and I for sure will be making it again because it is fabulous!

By now I’m sure that all of you know that I cook like a maniac and use the recipes that I find as guidelines and not requirements. I sometimes substitute ingredients for others, leave out ingredients that I don’t have, or add in ingredients that I like.

So as always this cooking review will be a little all over the place because that is my cooking style.

Ok! Lets get started!

Brocoli Beef with Lo Mein

Ingredients:

  • Lo Mein Noodles 
    Of course I forgot to get lo mein at the store, so I just used spaghetti and that was apparently a very controversial cooking decision. But I promise that spaghetti noodles work fine. I probably cooked like 1 1/2 handfuls of spaghetti
  • Brocoli
    I really like brocoli so I just threw in as much brocoli as I could stand, which was an entire frozen bag. I tend to use frozen vegetables when I’m cooking because I’m lazy but of course feel free to use whatever you prefer
  • Flank steak
    The recipe calls for flank steak but since Mike and I hunt, I just used a deer roast and I really hope that doesn’t offend anyone
  • 1 shredded carrot
    I had some left over carrot chips in the fridge when I made this so I used those instead
  • Garlic
    I’m sure you can remember from my last post that I have a huge tub of minced garlic from Sam’s Club. Whenever I make anything I just add as much garlic as I need to make whatever I’m cooking taste good. I feel like that’s probably around 1 tsp?
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Sauce Ingredients

  • Brown Sugar
    I actually followed the recipe for this part and used the recommended amount which is 1/4 c packed.
  • Sesame oil
    I never measure oil when I’m cooking. I always just pour it in until it looks right. If I had to pick a measurement, it would be around 1 or 2 tsp?
  • Soy Sauce
    I think I put around 1 or 2 tsp as well
  • Ginger
    I think the recipe called for fresh ginger, but its hard to find fresh ginger where I live so I usually end up using the spiced form and then I have to guesstimate. When I’m unsure of how much to add, I usually just do 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce by mixing the brown sugar, sesame oil, ginger and soy sauce together
  2. Get a pretty big pot and cook your lo mein/spaghetti noodles
  3. When your noodles have about 5 minutes left until they are done, add in your brocoli to warm it up. I also added my carrot chips during this step because they needed to be cooked. In the original recipe you shred your carrot to garnish your dish and add it at the end. Either way is perfectly acceptable
  4. Drain your pasta, brocoli and carrots and set it aside
  5. Then either in the same pot or in a different frying pan, cook your meat and garlic. I also added in the salt and pepper during this step but its really up to you when you want to put it in
  6. When the meat is as done as you would like, add in the noodles and sauce, and mix it until it becomes really yummy looking
  7. Set the table and eat a super tasty dinner!
