Before I jump into this post I am so excited to say that I have an affiliate link which I will be sharing later in this post. If you use my link to make a purchase today I will receive a small commission.
Ok let’s get started!
My husband and I have been talking about it for a while, and we miss the mountains, trees and streams tremendously so when the opportunity arose my husband took a job in Helena.
My usual plan of attack when we move is to go through my house and decide what I want to take with me to my new house. Then I pack it all up, donate the rest, and move.
This time around I have been feeling a little overwhelmed which is weird for me because normally I don’t mind moving. In fact I usually welcome the change because it means new adventures and opportunities.
Anyway, I always feel better when I make lists because they help me clear my head and arrange my crazy thoughts into a plan of attack for whatever I currently need to tackle.
So today I will be sharing my moving to do list with you all.
Declutter and Pack
Whenever I move, I like to declutter and pack at the same time. That way I don’t have to go through the house twice. When I get to the room I’m currently working on, I make three piles: pack, donate, or trash.
Then I go ahead and grab my boxes and tape and everything else I need to pack up the room.
I don’t know about you, but I always seem to loose the tape like every five minutes so I am excited to share that I have a link for my latest Amazon find : packing tape!
To be honest I feel like you can never have enough heavy duty tape these days because it seems like working from home has gifted a lot of us time for activities like quarantine cleaning and decluttering.
Donate
I personally don’t love to sell a lot of my things when I know I have to move soon unless it’s something new with tags or really valuable like a power saw.
I just feel like I already have a time line so I don’t want to add stress to the move by adding more things to my to do list. Its just easier for me to donate pretty much everything I’m not taking with me to my new house. That way I can quickly get rid of all my extra things that I haven’t been using and they will go to someone who can use them more than I have been.
Forward Your Mail
This one is super important because the last thing you want to deal with is the hassle of loosing your mail or even worse paying late fees because your mail is not being delivered to your new address. If you have a Post Office box like we do, don’t forget to cancel it so you aren’t accidentally paying for mail in two different locations.
Cancel Your Utilities
If you’re not living there anymore, why pay for it?
Especially if you own your last home like us, be sure to call the utility companies to let them know you’re moving. That way they can transfer the bills out of your name to the new home owners or renters. And while you’re on the phone don’t forget make sure the water and WiFi are hooked up at your new house.
Do you guys have any moving advice?
If you do, I would love hear it in the comments.
