Today I am sharing another blog in my Moving 101 series and this time it’s about home staging.

Deep Clean Everything

The easiest way to stage your home is to make it look clean. Studies have shown that clean homes can actually make people feel less stressed out, so this is an important one because you don’t want buyers to feel anymore anxious or nervous than they most likely already do.

You guys, buying a house is a really big deal so as the seller you want to set yourself up for as much success as possible by making this process as stress free as possible for your buyer and for yourself.

Not to mention, cleaning is literally free and if you want to be super efficient you can also declutter and pack as you clean.

Depersonalize Your Space

This was actually my least favorite part of staging because I’ve always been the type of person who feels at home with pictures on the wall. But studies show that if you take down photos of your family it makes potential buyers feel like they can imagine themselves living in your home more easily.

If you leave your personal touch in every room in the house, it makes buyers feel more like they are visiting someone else’s house instead of walking into their future dream home.

But to make sure your house doesn’t look too minimal after you take everything down, I would recommend picking up some neutral decor at the Dollar Tree or the Dollar Spot at Target because cozy houses make future buyers feel at home.

Some cheap decor ideas that always work are: fake flowers, pretty vases, nick-nacks, and not too cheesy wall art.

Paint Everything a Neutral Color

This last one is also my most time consuming tip, but I totally recommend it. White, cool tones like light grey, and warm tones like beige are shown to increase your home value.

Not only that, but if your home already has a neutral base, it will help future buyers imagine the space as their own.

Painting kind of sounded like an oxymoron to me because tons of new home owners paint everything pretty much the second they get their keys, but a fresh coat can really help get your home sold especially if you’re trying to hide any scuff marks or crayon wall art from your toddler.

Painting is also a good idea because you can usually get indoor or outdoor paint at a reasonable price at Walmart or your local hardware store.
